Understanding the Symptoms of Mesothelioma

Mesothelioma Symptoms

Mesothelioma symptoms may not appear until 30 to 50 years after asbestos exposure. Common symptoms of pleural mesothelioma include chest pain (caused by fluid accumulation in the pleura) and shortness of breath. Peritoneal mesothelioma symptoms may include weight loss, abdominal pain and swelling caused by fluid buildup in the abdomen. Additional peritoneal mesothelioma symptoms include blood clotting abnormalities, bowel obstruction, fever and anemia. If the cancer spreads beyond the mesothelium, symptoms may include difficulty swallowing, pain, or swelling of the face or neck.

These symptoms may be caused by mesothelioma or by less serious medical conditions. It is imperative to visit a physician concerning any of these symptoms.

Mesothelioma Cancer Centers provide specialized cancer treatments to victims of mesothelioma and other asbestos-related cancers. Cancer treatments include: Chemotherapy, Radiation, Surgery, Clinical Trials, and New Treatments for Cancer.
